New Description ‑ Iowa 56 and its extensions in Clayton County described as follows:

Beginning on the Clayton‑Fayette County line at a point approximately 900 feet north of the SW Corner Section 6‑T93N‑R6W, Clayton County (SE Corner Section 1‑T93N‑R7W, Fayette County); thence in a southeasterly and easterly direction through Sections 6, 7, 8, 9, 16, 15, 14 and 13‑T93N‑R6W and Sections 18, 17, 20, 21 and 22‑T93N‑R5W to the west corporation line of Elkader, connecting with 2nd Street.

Elkader:

Beginning on 2nd Street at the west corporation line; thence southeast on 2nd Street to Bridge Street; thence northeast on Bridge Street to 1st Street; thence southeast and southwest on 1st Street to the south corporation line.

Beginning again on the south corporation line of Elkader connecting with 1st Street; thence southwest and southeast through Section 26‑T93N‑R5W to a junction with Iowa 13 in the NW ¼ of Section 26-93N‑R5W.

DISCUSSION/BACKGROUND:

Iowa 56 begins on the Clayton‑Fayette County line approximately four miles northeast of the City of Wadena, and travels southeasterly to Iowa 13 in the City of Elkader.

Due to a relocation of Iowa 13 in the Elkader area, Iowa 56 should be extended southerly approximately one mile on the old alignment of Iowa 13 to a junction with relocated Iowa 13 approximately one‑half mile south of the City of Elkader.

PROPOSAL/ACTION RECOMMENDATION:

It is recommended to approve deleting the present description of Iowa 56 in Clayton County from the primary road system and approve including the attached new description of Iowa 56 in the primary road system.

Due to a review of our Primary Road System Records Iowa 56 in Clayton County should be deleted and the new description added should be officially included into the Primary System.

PROPOSAL/ACTION RECOMMENDATION:

It is recommended that the old description of Iowa 56 in Clayton County be deleted and the new description, as referred in the attached detailed description, be included in the Primary Road System effective upon the adoption of this resolution.
